When it comes to aesthetics, nothing beats concrete in ground pools. While it takes weeks, even months for a concrete swimming pool installation to be finished, it allows you to be as creative and as imaginative as you can get when it comes to pool design. You do not have to choose a design from the shapes-and-sizes ‘catalogues’ flashed in swimming pool contractor websites. While pre-made pools do come in varying shapes and sizes, nothing can give you as much design options as a concrete pool installation can. Unlike most pre made pools, you can also build a concrete pool in such a way that there would be various water ‘levels’, making it one children-friendly option.

What is probably the major drawback about concrete pools is that, in addition to its considerable installation cost (prices start at around $17000), maintenance can be a pain. Concrete is a porous surface so it will leak alkali. You will notice that your pumps and filters would get busy trying to keep the pool clean. You would also need to spend money for concrete pool repairs, such as resurfacing, which needs to be done every 8 years or so. The good thing about concrete pools is that it can last for a lifetime, so you don’t have to pay for another pool in 20 years’ time.

It can get pretty refreshing to take a dip in a pool; and just hanging out by the poolside, can be a good stress-reliever. Concrete pools are for people who want a pool they can swim laps in and gaze at.

The first and more popular type of swimming pool are inground swimming pools.  They are very convenient in that they are right in your backyard, but they usually cost a lot more money to install and maintain.  Usually these kinds of pools are nicer and larger which is always good, but they are harder to clean and close down in the winter and also open up in the spring.  To many, it is worth the expense of having an inground pool because it is a nicer looking pool, but to some it is not and they choose a different type of pool.

Those kind of people who do not think an inground pool is worth the time and money usually decide on building above ground swimming pools.  Above ground pools are cheaper to build and maintain because they are not dug into the ground and piping is not needed.  Also these pools do not take up as much space, but that can also mean that they are not as big.  These pools are not as attractive looking because they are just a structure built up off of the ground and just stick out.  Also, many townships require that a person has a permit for an above ground pool and some don’t allow them at all, so you would need to check first.

Both of these kinds of pools can be great for summer fun, but there are pros and cons to both and you must choose which is better for you.
